The experience
Tucked inside an unassuming arched doorway in the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali quarter, Maalem Bouchaib opens his family's courtyard workshop to a maximum of four guests. You will begin by feeling the moist High Atlas grey clay, watch how it is kiln-fired with olive pits, and then pick up the heavy balance hammer ('manqach') to carve precise geometric facets yourself.

Introduction to grey Atlas clay preparation, natural cobalt and copper glazes, and olive-pit kiln firing.

The Rhythm of the Manqach
Master the seated posture and precise counter-weight strike to bevel 10x10 glazed squares into micro-triangles.
Step 03
Inverted Mosaic Assembly
Assemble an eight-fold star motif upside-down into a wooden frame, sealing it with lime plaster as done in palaces.
